Structure Of 'That's How It Seems'

Her first impression is that he is a mature and kind boy... or at least that's how it seems.

That's how it seems = that's the way how it seems

Does that mean 'the way' is the complement of 'is' and 'seems'?

Her first impression is that he is a mature and kind boy... or at least that's how it seems . The underlined element is a 'fused' relative clause, where "how" is interpreted as "the way how".

  • "How" functions as complement of "seems" in the relative clause, and "how it seems" is complement of "be".
