Structure of 'shaded red ridges' ?

Here, in this extract what's the structure of 'shaded red ridges' ? Is it 'red ridges' which are shaded? Or it is 'ridges' which are 'shaded red'? And is there any difference between 'shaded red' and red shaded' ?

My guess is that we're talking about shade from overhanging trees, rather than shades of color.
So I'd say it's "red ridges which are shaded."
