Structure

Dear Teacher,

I meet the two sentences:

we went on board the yacht

he lived on board ship

Please analyze the structure of the two senteces. What's the function of the nouns--yacht and

ship? Are they objects? But went and lived are intransitive verbs. I haven't seen this type of structure.

Thank you.

Hi,
The nouns are objects of the prepositions, not objects of the verbs.

The prepositional phrases are adverbial.

The article "the" is optional with "ship," but not with "yacht."
