Strong nuclear force

The strong nuclear force binds protons and neutrons in a nucleus. It is noticeable that is there was not a attractive force, a nucleus would be unstable due to electric repulsion between its protons.

I use here simple past ---would structure , because we are just imagining here the absence of a force.
am i right ?
