strike:made by printing, stamping etc

Hi. I have been working the meanings of strike. One of them is "made by printing, stamping etc" but it is confusing for me. Here what are "printing, stamping" ?

Example: They will strike a medal in memory of the great victory.

What could be synonyms for the meaning of "strike" here?

Source: Intermediate Dictionary.

Thank you.
