Stress -which syllable-without dictionary

Hi all,

Without using a dictionary, how do I know which syllable of a word should be stressed?

And also can I stress any syllable? For example in a 3 syllable word, can I stress any syllable?

Thank you

-- You don't. All I can tell you is that in multisyllabic words, the last syllable is usually unstressed. -- No, of course not.
