Strange sentence

Why is a sentence I am reading written like this:

Thought you'd nipped y'smoking in't bud?

I thought you had nipped your smoking in the bud, i.e. I thought you had stopped smoking (implies soon after you started).
It appears to be an attempt to represent a dialect of English.
