straightly

Good afternoon.

Why would we say "Neil Diamond (!) went immediately into his second year of university", but not...

"Neil Diamond went straightly into his second year of university"

or

"Neil Diamond went directly into his second year of university"

straightly seems old-fashioned, see the dates of the books here:
