Hello Clive,

Thanks for correcting me.

If it is "building", then

1. A five-storey building

2. A five-storeyed building.

Hello,

Why in Case of a house (2) is not correct and in case of a building correct?

The comment about houses not usually having 5 floors was just an aside, it isn't relevant to the grammar.

Five storey is correct (for houses or buildings)

Five storeyed is incorrect (for houses or buildings).

Hi again,

Yes, it's true that, for houses and for any other building, you can say -storeyed. There is even an alternative spelling of -storied.

However, in terms of usage, these forms are much less common. Consider Google:

two-storey 3,400,000 hits

two-storied 261,000 hits

two-storeyed 95,500 hits

Best wishes,

Hi Clive

Is 'two-storied' an American English version? In British English, the plural of storey is storeys. The AmE version is story and stories.

I think (based on my dictionary) that the AmE versions are:
story, storey

Plurals:
stories, storeys

Hi again,

My Canadian Oxford Dictionary shows -storied as an alternative spelling of -storeyed.

As regards the noun, I see two storeys as correct but I see two stories as incorrect.

Best wishes, Clive
