Storage vs depository

Hi,

By definition,

* depository

depository is a place where objects can be stored safely.

* storage

If you refer to the storage of something, you mean that it is kept in a special place until it is needed.

What's the difference between these two? If are they interchangable?

Thanks a lot.

I don't think they are often, if ever, interchangeable. Depository denotes a physical place where objects are stored. Ex There's a file depository on the first floor.
