Stitch-sew

Hi everyoneEmotion: smile

I'm wondering what's the difference between the verbs sew and stitch. Aren't the same? I found the following sentence in a book "Then they began to stitch and sew and hammer"

Top answer

It appears it is a passage to do with some sort of needlework or leatherwork. The hammer puzzled me, but I found that is used in sewing. In this sense they are all verbs.

  • Whereas "stitch" can be a noun also, (and hammer too).
  • As verbs, stitch and sew can be interchangeable, but there is a subtle difference sometimes.
