Still + pres. simple/continuous

Hello all.

What's the difference between:

Federer play a high quality tennis.

Federer is still playing high quality tennis.

I found article where was the following sentence: When I knew that Federer, at age 34, is still playing amazing tennis and is a number 2 in the world....I could not believe it.

Why is it still+ present continuous? I would prefer using present simple as Federer has always played a good tennis during his career and therefore there is no reason for using pres. continuous. For temporary situations?

Thanks !
