Sticking out?

http://www.babel.sc/bike/6225.html

This is a Japanese schnitzel, which is sticking out of the bowl.

Is this correct? I have one more question:

What do you say when a material in the liquid is so?
A material is sticking out of the liquid?

'Schnitzel' is a German word; the English equivalent is 'cutlet' or 'breaded cutlet'. And you don't need the whole clause (it sounds somewhat non-native): This is a Japanese cutlet sticking out of the bowl. Supercat A material is sticking out of the liquid?
