Stick with/to it

Pick up continually. This may seem like a pain to do at first but if you stick with it, it will become a habit.

Hi,

Is it equally good say "stick to it" instead of "stick with it" in the above? Thanks.

The meanings are the same, but they are not equally good; 'with' is better here.

Thanks, Mister.

But can you explain in a few words that "stick to" doesn't fit as well here?

Generally, we stick to a plan; we stick with an activity.
