Sth about noun and adj

But no sooner had he made it clear to himself and his friends that she ha hard a good feature in her face,than he began to find it was rendered uncommonly intelligent by the beautiful expression of her dark eyes.

I saw this sentence when reading pride and prejudice,i would like to ask why there intellignet is used but intelligence?shouldn"t it use noun of adj? Thx for helping

The basic structure here is render + something + adjective.eg The poiceman renered the bomb hrmless.

The idea in your text is
her face . . . was rendered . . . intelligent ( by the beautiful expression of her dark eyes )

It's a passive voice version.
The active voice would be
eg .' ' ' the beautiful expression of her dark eyes rendered
