Speech & Pronunciation

Steven, Stephen

Why is Stephen pronounced stee-ven, not stee-phen? Aren't Steven and Stephen supposed to be pronounced in different ways? Perhaps, they come from two different regions where people use different spellings for the same name. Please guide me.

The Reason for the "STEEV-en" for the spelling STEPHEN is because of the Male Orientation OF the name the First E is Long and the PH mimics F's Second pronunciation carried by the word OF said "uV" This is the F they speak OF! The name's pronunciation Counter-Genders the name STEPHANIE said "STeF-uh-Nee"

Not always so. It is often pronounced as "Stef-ah-nee".
