Essay & Composition Writing

Stereotype of people from Spain

Hi everyone,
This is one of my compositions for English Class. It's failed, but I don't agree with the teacher, I mean, it might not be good at all, but it isn't so bad to fail it.
Please, i'd be great if you read it, and say to me something. She, my teacher, said that it was a little bit chaotic.

Thanks.

STEREOTYPE OF PEOPLE FROM SPAIN

When foreigners think about Spain, they only think about paella, siesta, bullfighters and fiesta. Moreover they think of Spanish people that we set our family above all. Furthermore, things like: “Spaniards work to live instead of living for work”, “The typical Spaniard is a not very hard working, wine drinking and ham eating person”, “Spanish men are very good looking. All the Spaniards look like Antonio Banderas” are easy to listen to foreigners.
It is true to say that we are temperamental, affectionate and good looking people like Antonio Banderas characters. For example, many people have tanned skin and deep black eyes, like crying in funerals and usually shout out while they are driving their cars.

Many people don’t agree with some of these stereotypes. They think we are more sophisticated, more European like they say lately. But Spanish men still buy drinks for girls and love seeing bullfights. Also, everybody smokes and likes talking all the time, so we are ‘typical Spanish’ like we usually say.

On the other hand, foreigners think we are lazy, no punctual, untidy and aggressive people. Although in same cases this is true, in general Spanish people is very hard working and efficient in their jobs; we are on a par with people of others countries.
They think that we don’t like living out of Spain a lot. In addition of that, they think that we think that the Spaniard is the best in the whole world. However these stereotypes were created when Spain was a poor country. Nowadays people have more money; indeed students usually live abroad for a semester.

In conclusion, in the beginning stereotypes are truths but as time goes on stereotypes become incorrect informations, in other words, they do not explain realty but it simplify itself.
Stereotypes are a necessary harm, as nobody talks nice about them but everyone needs them to express themselves.

I have to agree with your teacher, dear. Your essay sounds more like an angry rant than a well thought out composition. You need more order- a clear introduction would be nice. I might not have necessarily failed you, but you would not have gotten a very good grade in my class. Remeber, pre-writing and rough drafts are your friends.

It sounds like something I would have written in the seventh grade. I got lost and confused and least four times. I think I might have given you a D though...lol

Hi Belinda,

I would agree with your teacher that your essay is a bit chaotic, your ideas are quite mixed up and not properly phrased. Your essay is not worth failing but what angered your teacher might probably be your weak arguments which doesn't support your original intent that the stereotypes on Spanish people are wrong.

I think the worst arguments are these:
