Stereotype

I have a strange question. I want to say something like "breaking stereotypes." Is there a more commonly used word than "breaking" for what you do to a stereotype when you kind of defy it? Thanks! —Lukas

I usually hear 'shattering stereotypes'.

You might also look at the words iconoclastic / iconoclast, although the meaning is not quite the one you are asking about.
