Steptoe & Son (1966) - I wish I was a blackie!

'I wish I was a blackie - it's nice and warm in Africa and you can pick bananas off trees!
I wouldn't need to worry about buying a new suit!'
Harold Steptoe (Harry H. Corbett) answered...
'They wouldn't have you there! - they believe in keeping clean - they wash in running water - not like us, sitting in a bath and washing with our own dirty water!'.

Typographical error there "Sanford and Son"

It was the second show produced by Norman Lear, whose first show, the mega-hit "All in the Family" was based on "Till Death Us

Good in what way though?
One's own culture is going to influence that conclusion.

Take a typical USofA citizen and they will say that they do not understand Steptoe and Son, and take a typical UKofGB&NI subject of Her Britannic Majesy and they will say that All in the Family is not funny.

I've never seen the Brit version, but the neighbors in our apartment building told me they always knew when All in the Family was on because I laughed so hard they could hear me.
