Steps and stairs

Hi

Would you say that the two bold words below are equally natural and do they carry the same meaning?

[teacher to students]

Be careful on the steps.

Be careful on the stairs.

or

Come down the steps slowly.

Come down the stairs slowly.

I use 'steps' when there are very few, for example, if there are just three steps up or down to a garden area. I use 'stairs' when they reach from one floor of a building to another. CJ
