Hi
Would you say that the two bold words below are equally natural and do they carry the same meaning?
[teacher to students]
Be careful on the steps.
Be careful on the stairs.
or
Come down the steps slowly.
Come down the stairs slowly.
Thanks,
Tom
I use 'steps' when there are very few, for example, if there are just three steps up or down to a garden area. I use 'stairs' when they reach from one floor of a building to another. CJ
