Stepford Twin

Hi,

Anyone please help me understand what "the Stepford twin" is like. I imagine she is nice and neat, and always prim. But what about the background? I bet this is from some sort of a film or TV drama?

Any and all help would be much appreciated.

Hiro

[1] Jessica looked over Elizabethland, her sister's side of the room, with irritation. You'd think they were in book camp. Everyting in Elizabethland was neat and tidy. ...

...

Jessica kicked off the covers and sat up. Not that anyone did live in it. Not anyone real. "The Stepford twin," Jessica muttered to herself as she got out of bed.

[2] I am a lot of things, and the thing I simultaneously remember constantly and forget constantly is that I'm a MOM. I love being a Mom, don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to SHED the MOM image. But sometimes I feel like I don't look like a Mom. So I have to ask "Do I look okay? Do I look like a Mom?" Hosting my twins club holiday party I chose what I was going to wear, toned down the make up, didn't straighten the hair........why?
Because I feel like, a lot of the time, that they all look like Mom's and I don't. I'm not exactly sure why. None of them look the same, they are tall, short, fat skinny, super cute, super plain etc etc etc etc. So it's not like there is some Stepford twin mom thing I'm trying to compete with.

Hi, It's a reference to a movie called 'The Stepford Wives', in which independent women turn into "mindless, docile housewives". They are actually being replaced by manufactured 'clones'. org/wiki/The_Stepford_Wives Best wishes, Clive

Oh, okay, Clive. Hi, how are you? Been not in the forum for a long time.

So, the Stepford 'twin' actually is actually their coinage with a reference to the Stepford 'wives' in the novel in the two example, right?

Best,

Hiro
