'Step up the pace' means exactly the same thing as 'speed up the pace', right?

I assume 'quicken the pace' and 'fasten the pace" would mean the same thing, right?

Use "hasten" not "fasten."

"Fasten the pace" has no meaning that I know of. However, "pick up the pace" is a very standard idiom.
