Steady stream

Is this sentence natural? What is the opposite of “steady” stream? Is steady the correct adjective?

There has been a shortage of water and when we turn the faucet on, you don’t get a steady steam but a steam that isn’t steady.

Thank you

"There's been a water shortage, and when we turn on the faucet, we don't get a steady stream of water, just intermittent spurts, or nothing at all."
