Status quo

Do I have it right? If somebody asks, "How's it going?" and the other person says, "It's status quo,"
does s/he mean that nothing has changed; it's the same old, same old"?

"It's status quo" does not seem like natural English to me. I suppose I'd understand it more or less how you describe, perhaps with particular reference to the lack of progress on some issue.
