What does "status-bearing" in the following context mean?


Context:

In some cases this has been achieved in a very obvious way through the co-option of a celebrity role model, such as Michael Jordon for Nike advertising. In others, such as the Absolut Vodka campaigns to be discussed shortly, the brand has developed a ‘celebrity image’ through the personification of the product and its journeying through and participation in a number of status-bearing cultural scenarios.
