States and territories of India

Back in the date India had 29 states and 7 territories, during online class and giving lessons to my students I was going through a old book where it was written, but as per today India has 28 states and 8 territories,

So is the term "as per today" is correct here or should I say anything else, please help.

Please correct this.

Students when the book was written As of that time India had 29 states and 7 territories, so the writer wrote accordingly. later one more city was declared as union territory and added to the list of union territories which changed the total no of cities and Territories being or becoming 28 city and 7 territories as of today.

Please suggest appropriate word or phrase for emboldened parts.
