Statement of purpose for a biomedical research summer school

Hello ! I am an undergraduate student who is applying for a summer school

This is my first statement of purpose

i would be grateful if somebody helps me improve it

Before the Egyptian revolution started in January 25th 2011, I was studying hard to become a neurologist. I did not think too much about research. Being from a developing country, a medical student is exposed to a huge number of clinical cases but can hardly find enough support to do basic research.

After the revolution, I decided that I should do something different. My first research experience started just few months ago when i talked to a neuroscientist and told him that i would like to work with him for some time since I am interested in a career in experimental Neurology. After some discussions, we started a research project investigating a neuroprotective agent in parkinson disease animal model. While working in the Lab, I suddenly realized that I do like research work as much as I like clinical practice. I found myself curious not only to find out how neurological diseases arise, but also to understand the complex structure and function of the brain.

I consider myself to be a good candidate for this summer school because I am young, energetic, hardworking, and motivated person who believes he can do something for the benefit of his country. I scored excellent degrees during the past 5 years in medical school and achieved the first rank year after year. But this is not enough. Frankly, I am not satisfied yet with what i did. I believe that i can do much better if I am trained and developed through more research and guidance. It will add a lot to my interest to be given the opportunity to learn more about neuroscience research and neuroimaging especially functional brain mapping from Professor XXX.

In addition to these educational aspects, I am looking forward to meeting people from all over the world to get to know more about their countries and cultures and to make new friends.

I am very eager to be a part of your summer school and I will make sure to take the full benefit of this chance if given to me.
