Dear allPlease help me in writing a STATEMENT OF PURPOSE .. i wont to complete my PhD study in USA universities.. I’m interested in spatial planning AND sustainable urban design with focusing in using recent software in analyzing cities .. also in sustainable dimension .. my Ms thesis leans toward transportation planning and safety consideration in reconstruction new development pattern in the city.. Currently i teach urban design my favourite subject.. i see PhD will develop me in my career as a lecturer

Dear Professor,

I am writing to apply for the Doctor of Philosophy degree in urban planning at University of .......

I graduated from ... University with bachelor degree in..., during my studies I became very interested in Urban Planning, its principles and associated tools that allow the evaluation of potential risks and their prevention in new born settlements. In the context of Urban and regional Planning, and during my fourth year, I worked with my colleague as team work to proposed a “Future Development Plan” for the City of “...” based on a set of indicators which covered environmental, social and economic areas which helping the decision makers to evaluate their local development plans, strategies and policies and directed the city growth to a well planed pattern.

Once I completed my bachelor degree, I focused my professional career based on my educations and employed as a teaching assistant at ...and being a lecturer in .... . I became aware of the differences between “environment and built environment” and became conscious that construction has the potential to cause severe impacts on the environment but on the other hand, it is the kind of industry that has the ability to enhance environmental health, biodiversity and quality of life when applying the appropriate approaches and tools.

In ...., I became accepted in Masters Degree in ... at ....the most important and professional University .... in the field of Architecture and Planning. My Masters´ dissertation was a very detailed research aiming at .......... as a spatial decision tool for assessing pedestrian risk on urban street network and uses externalities in densely built-up urban areas, which can be used at intelligence phase of urban land use planning. It was a real challenge and a very interesting experience for me in a way that convinced me to gain more information about sustainable development, which was my thesis lean, to consider the evaluation of potential risks and their prevention in built Environment Planning.

during my Master study, where there are lots of feedbacks about the quality and modality of spatial data and geographic information system from the scientific users, I have realized how important all the parties are (from planers and local authorities to designers and contractors) in terms of making sustainability happen and how difficult it is due to the lack of appropriate or available tools and factual data. This has reinforced my interest in this topic, to which I intend to contribute and get involved as a researcher.

I intend to develop a PhD thesis related to issues of sustainability and associated tools and practical techniques which may enhance the capacity of policy-makers, managers, planners, public authorities and enterprises to identify the most effective option to promote and achieve the level of sustainability best suited to their own circumstances, maximising the benefits in economic, social and environmental terms. My fields of interests and preferred research topics mostly involve transportation planning in addition; working on sustainable urban design could also cover some areas I am searching for. Landscape and computer aided design are among my second fields of interests.

There is no doubt that USA Universities and their outstanding researchers have taken the lead in sustainable development, giving unique contributions to the studies of environmental risk management, urban planning and sustainable growth .They have also had the ability to establish impressive links with other relevant factors such as technical professional associations, the private sector, regional institutions and civil society, when putting sustainable development concepts into practice. For these reasons, I would like to have the opportunity to develop my PhD in this incredible country, where along with opportunities for my intellectual and professional growth I would have the possibility to meet and work with people and others from around the world, sharing professional and creative insights.

As you can see from my attached resume, I have had a great perseverance and enthusiasm over my course of education. I was among the first three best graduate students in both Master’s and Bachelor’s degree with high GPAs.

I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to study and research under your supervision and I think I could be a valuable addition to your research team.
