State thesis directly or indirectly for formal essay??

should i state, within the body of my introduction: My thesis is .... bla bla bla, or is it better to simply state it indirectly, expecting that the marker will recognize it when they see it???

It should be stated clearly, but 'my thesis is' is poor style. Just lay it out: 'Bats are our friends because they eat bugs and they get in my aunt's hair'.
