State & indicate

1.State the activity clearly.

2.Indicate when the activity will be carried out.

My problem is not being able to decide if I should use "state" or "indicate" while writing a report in which I need use the words very frequently. For example in the sentences above, can we use both instead of each other?

Thanks in advance.

Borrow a thesaurus and look up alternate words with similar meanings. Also vary your sentence structure, so you're not trapped using 'State...' or 'Indicate...' to start every sentence. After three repetitions the listener or reader will get the idea.

So you say "indicate" and "state" are synonyms and both sentences I wrote, sound okay even if we replace the verbs with each other?
