State against

Hi

Is this sentence natural? Any other suggestions?

His own secretary stated against him in court. [state against = speak against]

Thanks,

Tom

"stated against him" is not right. "spoke against him" is OK, but "gave evidence against him" is more specific, if that's what you mean.
