Starting sentences with conjunction

Hi Folks,

Some people say we can't, others say we can. Who is right?

I sometimes find that using 'and' to start a sentence works well. But is that wrong, especially in formal writing? Also 'so' and 'or' work quite well. Still, I am concerned.

Let me know your thoughts.

Regards,
Barry
