Starting point

Salaam!

I came across the word 'terminus a quo' as a synonym for starting point. Which preposition would be right - terminus a quo for X or terminus a quo of X? I guess both 'of' and 'for' are okay?

This is the only sentence I find in the on-line dictionaries: The terminus a quo for the Middle Ages is often considered the fall of Rome in 476. It is not a common phrase outside of Law, and few native speakers would know the meaning.
