Starting narratives with certain words or phrases

Hi. Please tell me if the phrases used below to start the narratives (like folk tales?) are correct or not. Also, do you think there should be an element of contrast in the storyline following when you start the story with the word "once"? Like as for the number 1 example, the two daughters were lazy at the beginning but as the story enfolds, their behavior improved and became diligent. Thank you in advance for your help.
