Start or starts?

Hello,

Is it preferable to say "It is important that the training start immediately" or "starts immediately"? "Start" seems to be better but I'm not sure why. Can you help?

Thank you,
Richard

The subjunctive ('start') is a bit more formal, so it is better for the written form. However, both are in common use nowadays.
