Start a letter with "This is..."?

Can we start a letter by "This is Sarah..., 26, graduated from the university of... in the major of..." When I want to introduce myself?

So"this is" is just used for:
1. introducing someone.
2. when I am on the door.
Right?

The sentence I wrote is for introducing yourself in a letter.
"This is Sarah" is what you would say on the telephone if your name is Sarah, or when you are introducing someone named Sarah to another person..
