Dear all,

Recently one of my colleagues acted in a short film. Then he shared it to our WhatsApp group. One of my superiors commented on it as follows. Please tell me whether the usage "stark realities" is natural.

"This short film throws light on the stark realities of life.

It is perfectly natural, but it is a cliche, and not an apt one. People use cliches when they don't know exactly what they are trying to say. Ask your superior to define "stark". I'll bet he can't do it. If something is stark, it stands out already and doesn't need any light thrown
