Star Trek Question?

I've watched Star Trek (2009) and near the end there was a ceremony for Captain James T. Kerk, and there was a speech:

This assembly calls captain James Tiberius Kirk.

Your inspirational valor and supreme dedication to your comrades...

is in keeping with the highest traditions of service.

And reflect at most credit to yourself, your crew and the Federation.

It is my honor to award you with this commendation.

By Starfleet order 28455, you are hereby directed to report to admiral Pike...

USS Enterprise, for duty as his relief.

--------------------------------------------

I don't quite understand the connection between the lines in red.

Can someone please explain to me the meaning of those sentences together.

Thanks in advance.

" Does that make more sense now? His valor and dedication are equal to the "highest tradition of service" - the very best examples of valor and dedication. Kirk could not have accomplished these feats independently though - he needed both the support of his crew and the training and inspiration he received from the Federation, so his achievement "reflects credit" - is partially due to - them.
