Standing in the path of..

Is it gramatically incorrect to write:''We stood in the path of the road''? I can agree that it does sound a bit strange, but is it wrong?

No. It's grammatically correct. However, it is not very meaningful. When you "stand in the path of" something, you are attempting to block its progress. I don't know of any roads that are trying to move.
