Is etiquette the right choice in this context?
Would you use proper or standard?
Is this sentence natural?
It is considered proper/standard etiquette to leave a step between you and the person in front of you on the escalator.

I also don't like the sentence. I would say "It is considered polite to leave..."

Yes, I think etiquette wasn't designed for escalators--especially the ones to and from the underground stations in London, England.
