Vocabulary

standard history or official history or others

China has a historic item named "Twenty-Four Histories". these histories are generally prepared by the governments or personals of next dynasties since preparing a history of current dynasty is quite dangerous and not convincible in ancient china. these histories are called "official histories" since they are prepared or endorsed by government or later dynasties. Today I saw a video in which the teacher said that these histories are "standard histories". Maybe his is right since I checked WIKI and it said that official history is a work of history which is sponsored, authorised, or endorsed by its subject. That means Twenty-Four Histories are not official since the reason above. But I found few item related to "standard history" on yahoo(I cannot connect to Google in China "as you know"). If I want to label Twenty-Four Histories, which one is better? standard history or official history or any other name?

Very briefly, here is how I think of these terms.

Official history A version that is approved by the authorities..

Standard history A version that is accepted as true by most people.
