Alpine trees can stand against /withstand snows and cold winter.

Both are correct?

withstand is not a phrasal verb.

You can use it for human beings as well, but it's not very usual. You have to use it according to the meaning it has. To withstand is to endure or resist (something). It's transitive. It has nothing to do with being in a standing position.
