stand in no more need of OR needs no more

Hi,

could we replace the 1st sentence by the second one without change in meaning?

It stands in no more need of an explanation than does a random string of outcomes of measurement.

It needs no more explanation than does a random string of outcomes of measurement.

thanks, cheers,

Ali

"stand/be in need of” means” have a strong feeling that you want sb/sth or must have sth" But I sensed sth wrong with both of these sentences. “Be in need of explanation” suggests the explanation is to be made by others. But than clause's subject is omitted, which implies to have the same subject with "it stands in no more need of”.

  • That’s illogical.

I write the whole of excerpt:

Such correlations stand in no more need of an explanation than does a random string of outcomes of measurements made at a single location.(p.20)

After reading the above floor, I realize "stand" here is not a linking verb; it's a vi likely means "be in effect".

Hence "stands in no more need” couldn't be replaced by "needs no more" at all.

But we have to wait to see what the teachers would say
