Actually, there have been gay superheroes for some years now, the first one being Northstar from "Alpha Flight". Others that come to mind are Apollo and The Midnighter (from Warren Ellis' "The Authority") and the most recent incarnation of Batw

Plus Batman & Robin, who sleep in the same bed and slide up and down the batpole and onky Alfred knows their secret..

And all of the closeted gay superheroes (who did the comedy routine about Superman resuing more men than women?).
Where are the nudist superheroes? Where are the transvestite superheroes? Where are the incontinent superheroes?
