The fictional character Dracula (created by Bram Stoker) was a native of Transylvania, a part of modern-day Romania. There was a historical Count Dracula, I believe, who was a cruel feudal lord, if not a real vampire, and you could google for more information on him. 'Its stake' is Romania's (financial) interest in the legend (because of the potential tourist business)-- but this is wordplay, as 'stake' has the second meaning of the wooden stake which must be driven through a vampire's heart to kill it.
