Stairs/steps

Hello,

Could you, please, tell me what is the difference between "stairs" and "steps"? Is it only about being inside or outside? Can I have "stairs" outside?

Thank you

Hotmale Is it only about being inside or outside? I see no difference; both can be inside and outside. Perhaps stairs are limited to longer flights: you can have one step.

Stairs is the series of steps leading to a higher level.
When we use "steps" we think of one step at a time.
eg. Everyone sat on the steps for the group picture.

I've got one more question: what would you call these?

#1 - A staircase leading to the second floor balcony.
#2 Front porch steps.

Stairs is usually referring to a large nnumber of steps going from one level to another.
