Stairs

Hi Friends/Teachers/Students,

How do you say stairs? Is stairwell or stairways also the same? He was standing on the stairway? Is this right, or is there a more natural way of saying it?

Thank you.

A short flight of stairs, as up to the front door of a house, is called steps. "He was standing on the steps."
