Hmm...

Life is such that we constantly have to __ something new

a) square up to -- sort of OK

b) stand up to-- No good

c) square off against-- Odd

d) cope with-- sort of OK

Is there a difference in meaning between those four?-- As indicated, roughly, but the viewpoint you offer seems rather belligerent or defeatist
