Spring was late last year and there was still snow in May.

Hello.

I know that depending on context we sometimes say seasons with 'the' or without 'the', but I am nor sure about this one:

Spring was late last year and there was still snow in May.

Should we say 'Spring' or 'The spring' here? And why?
