Spread your feet

Hi,

I heard the term "spread your feet", in a yôga class.

Is this expression correct? And is there a better expression for this?
Like "widen your feet"?
Or
"Place your feet apart"?
For example, "feet apart shoulder width" or, "feet apart 5 palms".

I guess that "spread your legs" sounds really bad.
Would you say "widen your legs" or "place your legs apart".

Which expressions would be correct and more elegant to use in the classroom?

Thanks!

It is most commonly used when the police have caught a suspect and want to pat them down to feel for weapons or illegal drugs. It is a very wide stance, the feet are way beyond shoulder width apart.
